A burglar who escaped police custody at ECMC is headed to prison.

A judge sentenced 29-year-old Randy Schindler to four years behinds bars followed by five years post-release supervision.

Schindler tried breaking into his girlfriend's home on Dearborn street in Buffalo back in December. When denied entry, he punched several windows and destroyed other property.

Police arrested Schindler shortly after and took him to ECMC to be treated for his injuries.

At the hospital, Schindler jumped through ceiling tiles and escaped custody. Officers found and arrested him the next morning as he tried to leave the hospital.

Schindler pleaded guilty in February to Attempted Burglary, Criminal Mischief and Escape.

For the damage he caused, Schindler has been ordeed to pay $2,780 to ECMC, $2,907.96 to the tenant and $570 to the Dearborn Street property owner.
