UPDATE: The trespasser has been identified as 35-year-old Marwan Taher of Lackawanna. He has been charged with criminal trespassing and misdemeanor.

Original: On Friday, a Buffalo Zoo guest climbed over a public barrier into a restricted area near the polar bear exhibit and approached a bear that was behind a mesh fence.

The Zoo reported the suspect was not in the exhibit, but in a restricted area between the public pathway and the exhibit barrier--which is considered trespassing.

The suspect attempted to leave the Zoo and was followed into the parking lot by Zoo security. He was then arrested by Buffalo Police.

The Buffalo Zoo reported both polar bears are safe and doing well.
