Buffalo is home to one of the best public transit systems in the country, according to a new study by Walk Score published by the online real estate agency Redfin.

Buffalo's Metro Bus and Rail system ranked ninth among mid-sized U.S. cities with populations between 100,000 and 300,000 people.

Metro received a transit score of 50.4, earning high marks for its accessibility to major attractions such as Canalside and events at the recently renamed KeyBank Center.

"Although most Buffalonians don't see themselves as living in a community that's known for its public transportation, this ranking recognizes some important progress that's been made toward making it easier and more convenient to live in and get around Buffalo," said Lesley Lannan, a Redfin real estate agent in Buffalo.

Cambridge, Massachusetts ranked first with a Walk Score of 72.3.

Jersey City, Newark, Arlington, Virginia and Berkeley, California round out the top five.
