Buffalo Police arrest suspected puppy thief

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - Buffalo Police believe they've arrested a puppy thief.

Officers found the dog early Tuesday morning, injured and without adequate food or shelter on Kay Street in Buffalo.

Police arrested 27-year-old Gene Smith and charged him with criminal possession of stolen property and torturing or injuring animals/failure to provide sustenance.

Police are investigating whether he may have stolen other dogs.

Correction: In the original version of this story, we connected the arrest to a missing dog report from February 8th from a home on Dewey Avenue. The two cases are not connected. Our apologies for the error.
