A Buffalo man was sentenced to two years probation on Wednesday for stealing stamps.

Acting U.S. Attorney James Kennedy says Irvin Bates, 64, was convicted of stealing government funds after stealing $3,760 worth of stamps on his "lunch break" at Ashton Potter on July 22, 2016. Ashton Potter is a printing company in Williamsville contracted by the U.S. Postal Service to print and manufacture postage stamps and related products.

Officials say Bates stole a pad of stamps, hid them in his clothes and took them out of the facility at the end of his shift.

In addition to two years probation, Bates was ordered to pay $3,760 in restitution.
