A 21-year-old Buffalo man has been found guilty of starting an apartment fire in Lackawanna last year that injured several people, including a child.

According to the Erie County District Attorney, a jury found Corey Green guilty on four counts of arson in the third degree.

Prosecutors say Green intentionally set the fire to the apartment building on Ingham Avenue back in April 2017. Four families were living in the building at the time. Three of the families made it out safely, but the Lackawanna Fire Department was needed to rescue a family of five who were trapped in the upper rear apartment.

Authorities say a three-year-old boy suffered third-degree burns on his arm and inner thighs and spent several weeks in the hospital. A four-year-old girl suffered smoke inhalation, which resulted in a partially collapsed lung. The children’s parents also suffered injuries.

Green faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on October 2nd.
