A 23-year-old Buffalo man was arrested late Friday night in connection with a gun incident that police say began with a traffic stop.

Police pulled over the vehicle for speeding and other traffic violations at 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hertel and Sterling Avenue.

Demetrius Jackson, the passenger, exited the vehicle with a loaded handgun and ran off. As officers chased him down Sterling, Jackson pointed the loaded gun at them, according to authorities.

Officers took him into custody following a fight between Jackson and police.

He faces charges of criminal possession of a loaded firearm, menacing a police officer with a gun, obstruction, resisting arrest and criminal possession of marijuana.

Two male officers were treated at ECMC for various injuries.

Police are continuing to search for the driver who also took off on foot.
