A Buffalo man has admitted to stealing tires and rims from a car lot in Hamburg.
Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announced Tuesday that 48-year old Anibal Castro, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree, Possession of Burglar’s Tools and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle in the Third Degree.
Prosecutors say Castro and a co-defendant drove a stolen truck to the West Herr Chevrolet and removed tires and rims worth nearly $4,000 form a new truck on the sales lot. The truck was later found on cement blocks.
The head of security for West Herr, who is also a retired Town of Hamburg police officer, noticed the suspicious activity on October 26, 2015, according to the DA's office. The security officer then apprehended Castro and the co-defendant with the new tires loaded into the stolen truck. Additional cement blocks were also found in the truck.
Castro's sentencing is scheduled for April 25, 2016.
