Buffalo Fire Department battalion chief helps crews battle two fires, freezing temps on final shift

Posted

The Buffalo Fire Department's battalion chief has now retired.

In his final night on duty, battalion chief John Murphy helped crews battle two fires in frigid temperatures that froze their gear.

The first was a three-alarm fire that destroyed a home on Tonawanda Street.

Just hours later, a second broke out on Winter Street.

We're told crews got both under control  relatively quickly.

No word yet on how either fire started.

Murphy had been the battalion chief for four years here in the Queen City.
