Friday was a perfect night for a double birthday party at Ellicott Creek Park in Tonawanda. Festivites included hamburgers on the grill, kids playing games, and a bucket full of presents for the homeless.
Alanna and Austin Bell aren't accepting presents for their seventh and ninth birthdays. They're collecting donations for the homeless, instead.
A barrel full of goods, mainly hygiene products, will go to the Buffalo City Mission. The mission estimates over 5,000 people are homeless in Western New York during any given year.
The idea came from a good room cleaning.
“We saw that they had a lot of things. So rather than have their friends come together and give them more things, we decided to have their friends come together and give them all away,” said Dalphne Bell, Alanna and Austin’s mother.
This Amherst family is planning a visit with Austin and Alanna's classmates to the Buffalo City Mission and deliver the goods they've collected.
“We're trying to give all the charity stuff to the poor and we're just trying to like help the world,” said Alanna.
