Town of Tonawanda Police have charged a man with the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend in the Town of Tonawanda.
Detectives say John Avent, 49, killed Roberta Rybinski in March inside her apartment on Newell Avenue, which she shared with the suspect. Police say neighbors heard the couple arguing in the days leading up to March 8, when officers found Rybinski's body.
Police arrested Avent on murder charges Saturday in Olean. He was arraigned Sunday and is locked up without bail at the Erie County Holding Center.
He is due in town court for a prelimiary hearing Thursday afternoon.
