Bond has been set at $50,000 for 29-year-old Steven Scroger.

The Erie County man was in a Springville court room Thursday, with cuffs and shackles on. He is accused of shooting his 4- and 6-year-old step daughters with a BB gun.

Investigators believe he did it as a form of punishment. They said Scroger claimed the little girls injuries were bug bites when he took them to the doctor for treatment late last month.

Scroger is facing several charges including assault to a minor. His attorney David Sarkovics said he is going to do the best job for his client

"Like I said we going to get to the truth to the matter and he is going to be defended to the best of my ability and we are really going to do a good job for him and we are really going to find out what happened," Sarkovics said.

The judge issued an order of protection for the victims. Scrogger cannot go near the young girls.
