Authorities say a Hinesburg man has pleaded no contest to reckless operation of a motorboat after he struck a Buffalo woman swimming in Lake Iroquois over the summer.
They say 47-year-old Christopher Thompson entered the same plea Thursday to simple assault with a weapon. He was on the lake on June 28 when he hit 62-year-old Jane Marinsky, an illustrator from Buffalo who teaches at Daemen College. She suffered broken ribs and other injuries.
The Burlington Free Press reports Thompson's record will be cleared if he stays out of trouble until Oct. 1 and pays Marinsky $750 to purchase buoys and anchoring devices for landowners along the lake during the 2015 boating season.
He must also complete an online boater safety course and distribute fliers promoting the safe recreational use of water.
