A black swan is in the care of a local veterinarian after being rescued in the Erie Canal in North Tonawanda on Thursday.
Black swans are native to Australia. The SPCA Wildlife Department believe the swan was someone's pet and possibly strayed or was put out, since a natural occurrence of the animal in Western New York is unlikely.
The rescue was possible by the Erie County SPCA and students from Lincoln Memorial University.
