A new monument that will honor African American Veterans just got a big boost.

Catholic Health announced they have donated $50,000 to the African American Veterans Monument project Wednesday.

The monument will recognize contributions African Americans have made while serving in all branches of the military.

The African American Veterans Monument was designed by Solid 716 and features 12 black, 10-foot concrete pillars. Each pillar represents each of America's 12 military conflicts.

Construction on the monument will begin sometime during spring next year when the fundraising goal is met and will be located at the Buffalo & Erie County Naval and Military Park.

For more information on the African American Veterans Monument, you can visit AAVMWNY.org or call 716-800-1137.
