Erie County continues to try and mitigate a bed bug problem in county-owned buildings.

County officials announced Tuesday they have hired a pest control service to spray for bed bugs at the third floor of the Family Court Building and the third floor of the Rath Building after close of business.

So far, the county has hired Ashland Pest Control to spray a total of 10 floors inside the Rath Building on Franklin Street in Buffalo. The Rath Building is home to many county offices, including the Erie County Executive’s office, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and Department of Public Works.

Pest control workers also sprayed at 1500 Broadway, which houses the Erie County Medical Mall.

As of mid-August, the county had spent about $3,800 to control the bed bug population. Another total will be available at the end of September.

All employees in the Rath Building and Family Court Building must vacate the areas being treated and remove all personal items off of the floor before they leave for the day on Tuesday. It will be business as usual for all employees in those areas Wednesday.
