Bear sighting in Amherst

A black bear is roaming around Amherst.

After receiving tips about a bear sighting in the area of Ransom Oaks in the Town of Amherst Thursday afternoon, a patrol officer came across the bear approximately three miles away in Getzville, near the I-990 and Crosspoint Parkway.

The patrol officer took video of the bear, which was shared on social media.

Amherst Police are urging residents not to approach if you see the bear or any bear.  Instead, they encourage you to call 9-1-1 and report the location.
