Bagpipers: some of the busiest people on St. Patrick's Day

Posted

When it comes to music on St. Patrick's Day it's only natural to think of bagpipes. They're everywhere. Including at Larkin Square, Friday night.

“It's going to be a busy weekend,” said Michael Kick of the Greater Buffalo Firefighters Pipes and Drums.

There are only so many bagpipers in Western New York. And the largest group of pipers is the Greater Buffalo Firefighters Pipes and Drums. The kilted, musical, first responders stay busy on the most Irish weekend of the year.

“This is the high an holy days of bag piping. March, you just do it the whole month,” said Joe Mehltretter.

The band will play 14 times from Friday to Sunday. That includes two parades and a total of nine gigs on St. Patrick's Day alone.
