An 11 month-old boy is being treated for a fractured skull at Women and Children's Hospital after falling from a second-story window in Niagara Falls and onto a concrete walkway below.

Pictures from the scene at 2003 Walnut Avenue show what appears to be a plywood-covered wooden frame wedged between the upper story of the baby's home and the house next door.

Niagara Falls Police say the opening may have been a window at one time but had since been covered up on the outside wall of a makeshift living room.

The ground below is littered with baby dolls and garbage.

The baby was awake and crying when rescuers arrived.

Detectives have spoken to the boy's mother.

Code inspectors have condemned the house.

Niagara Falls Police and Child Protective Services are investigating.
