Two performances by the Lorraine Goddard Dance Studio scheduled for Saturday at Artpark were canceled, leaving some caught off guard.
Sources told 7 Eyewitness News the sprinklers used to put out a fire malfunctioned, and the state shut them down at 6:00 A.M. Saturday morning. Sources also said no one called the owner of the studio. Instead, they found out via a note posted on their doors that the recital was canceled due to tech difficulties.
Artpark released a joint statement with the New York State Office of Parks:
"Due to technical issues beyond our control, the dance recital with Goddard Dance that was scheduled for today at Artpark had to be canceled. After attempts by the New York State Parks to correct the situation failed, State Parks directed that the recital be canceled. Artpark and Co. notified Goddard management via email as soon as the decision was made at 8:10am. Goddard and Artpark have a long standing relationship and we understand the disappointment. We are working on rescheduling the event as soon as possible."- Angela Berti, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and Sonia Clark, Artpark.
Some 1200 were scheduled to attend both events. There’s no word on when the event will be rescheduled.
