More than one thousand players took to the ice this weekend for the Ninth Annual Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament.

Hockey teams battled all weekend for bragging rights. The tournament takes place at Buffalo Riverworks. This marked the third year it was held at that location.

“In 2008, we started the tournament in Buffalo, it was a one day tournament,” explained Labatt Blue Associate Brand Manager Gina Heine. “We had only 16 teams. This weekend we had 144 teams play. So that was over a thousand players competing throughout the weekend. So we've certainly grown and we're happy to be here at Buffalo River works where we have guaranteed ice.”

Teams from 13 different states participated this weekend. Organizers said the tournament wasn't just about hockey.

There was also on-ice human bowling.
