Erie County is looking for more “Angels” to fight addiction.

The so-called “Angels” are volunteers who work with people battling opioid addiction.  They monitor and stay with addicts seeking treatment and rehabilitation.

The county is looking for at least 100 people to sign up for this volunteer program, but so far less than half that number have signed up.

According to the Erie County website, if an addict comes to the police looking for help, they will be paired with an “Angel” to help guide them through the process.  The person battling addiction will not be charged with a crime or thrown in jail.
