An upstate New York bar that claims to have invented Buffalo wings nearly half a century ago is launching it's first-ever location in New York City.

Anchor Bar is set to open May 17 in the Manhattan neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen. The Daily News reports this marks the 11th location for the Anchor Bar, which has had its original location in operation since 1935.

The Buffalo-based bar is credited by some with creating the spicy turn on chicken wings now commonly known as Buffalo wings in 1964. According to the bar, then-owner Teressa Bellissimo cooked up the wing recipe for her son's friends on a late night.

Anchor Bar's midtown restaurant will feature 3,840 square-feet of space with a family dining area and a sports bar with flat-screen TVs.
