A man who dedicated his career to his community has lost his courageous battle with cancer.

William "Radar" Riley, the chief of the Main-Transit Fire Department, died Wednesday. He was 49 years old.

Riley joined the department in 1985. He was elected to second assistant chief in 2009, first assistant chief in 2011 and chief in 2015.

In addition to his duties with the Main-Transit Fire Department through the years, he also worked at John's Towing and the New York State Department of Transportation.
