Amherst town leaders could have some pay raises coming their way.

Paycheck increases were approved in a vote three to two at a board meeting last night.

The pay changes were proposed by council members who would be getting a salary bump from $25,500 to $35,000.

The Town Supervisor  - who would be getting a pay raise from $75,000 to $105,000 - was against the proposal.

The Deputy Supervisor is expected to get a raise from $3000 to $4000, the Town Clerk can expect an increase from $65,000 to $82,000, the Highway Superintendent would get a bump from $97,000 to $100,000 and the Town Justice would see a raise from $96,700 to $102,000.

This money is part of the preliminary budges for 2017.

The public still has a chance to weigh in on the raises at a budget hearing in the future.
