Aluminum tariff cold hurt breweries

Posted

President Trump announced a tariff on Aluminum and steel that would take effect in April of 2018. The tariff would be 10% on aluminum. An indirect result of this tariff could be on the beer industry as most beer cans are made from aluminum - rising the price of cans. This is something local brewery Buffalo Brewing Company believes they can handle.

"If our can price increases two and a half, three cents we will absorb that" Buffalo Brewing Company owner John Domres said.

One problem that could come from the tariff would be a possible trade war from other countries upset over the new tariff.

"If it turns into a trade war then we could see some issues. A lot of our grain comes from overseas" Domres said.

If that is the case it would be crippling for the brewing industry as it relies heavily on products from across the globe.

"I don't think people realize how globally tied breweries are to the rest of the world."
