A 19-year-old is in jail, accused of robbing a McDonald's, after being caught by an alert off-duty Town of Tonawanda Police Officer.

Investigators say Tyler Williamson demanded cash Wednesday night from the McDonald's clerk while brandishing a baseball bat. The incident happened on Delaware Avenue at the corner of Sheridan Drive.

Williamson took the money and left the store, using his bat to smash a glass door as he walked out of the building, according to police.

Off-duty officer Christopher Ryan was in the vicinity when he heard the sound of glass breaking and saw Williamson fleeing the scene.

Ryan was able to track down the suspect and arrest him about two blocks away.

Williamson is being held in Town of Tonawanda jail while he awaits arraignment. He is charged with Robbery, Menacing, Criminal Mischief and Weapons Possession.
