New York State Police arrested an Alden man after his four month-old baby was found with symptoms of shaken baby syndrome.

28 year-old Joseph T. Jurek has been charged with assault in the first degree, reckless assault of a child, criminal possession of marijuana in the third degree and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arrested on January 16th.

On January 7th, state troopers out of Clarence responded to a home on Exchange street for a medical call of a four month-old baby that had fallen. The baby was taken to Oishei Children's hospital by its parents.

Investigators from the bureau of criminal investigation determined that the child suffered hemorrhages, consistent with results of shaken baby syndrome.

Jurek was remanded to Erie County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
