An Albion man faces an attempted murder charge following an altercation Friday.

Officers responded to an apartment building on North Main Street in the village to find a 53-year-old male with severe head injuries. The victim was initially transported to the Medina Memorial Hospital, and then taken by Mercy Flight to Buffalo General Hospital, where he was last listed in critical condition. His name is being withheld pending family notification.

Police arrested Wesley Askew Jr., 49, following the assault. Officers said he and the victim are acquaintances who both live in the apartment building.

Askew faces assault and second degree murder charges. He's being held in the Orleans County Jail on $250,000.00 bail.

Askew is due in court on June 14.
