A salute to Stevens Street Heroes

It’s the images Western New Yorkers won’t soon forget - Plumes of thick, black smoke and bursts of fire rising behind homes and businesses that could be spotted miles away.

It’s been deemed the largest fire in the City of Lockport’s history, and tonight first responders of the High Tread International blaze are being honored for their bravery and relentless effort on that August night.

“Tonight is a testament to the work that they’ve done and a night for us to show our gratitude,” McCaffrey

City of Lockport Mayor Anne McCaffrey and Lockport Fire Chief Pat Brady weren’t the only ones to take the stage thanking more than 60 agencies for their service during 66 balmy hours.

The night began with a family whose home sat just feet across from where the fire began expressing their gratitude.

Before first responders received an official proclamation from the city, a moment of silence for a young man who didn’t make it out of the fire alive 14-year-old Joe Phillips of Lockport.
