A local celebrity putting competition raised $455,000 for Oishei Children's Hospital Sunday afternoon.

The contest pairs patients from Oishei with local celebrities for a 5-hole-put-off.

"I got a hole in one. I got a hole in one dude," shouted Will Lucas as he sank a 10-footer.

While it was a charity event, it was just as much a moment for kids who have gone through so much to forget about their worries.

"Just for a few minutes just try to be kids. And have fun and forget about being sick and being in a hospital," Andrew Bennett, vice president of the Children's Hospital of Buffalo Foundation, said.

Events like this mean a lot to children like 6-year-old Jackson Marchetta of Williamsville. He said he hopes it will go a long way for anyone undergoing treatment.

"They can feel better from their sickness. And they will feel healthy. And that they don't have to go to the hospital," Marchetta said.

Jackson has a rare autoimmune disease called Juvenile Dermatomyositis. Common colds are much worse for him, and he has to get 8-hour transfusions once a month. He said Oishei has made it easier to handle. That's why on a recent trip to Washington D.C. he sang that praises of the hospital.

"Talking to senators and congressmen about the hospital. And what i do. And how good the nurses are," Marchetta said.

The charity event ends tomorrow with a nearly 250 person round of golf.
