Buffalo could be home to a new TV show in the near future. Big Fish Entertainment LLC has reached out to the Erie County Sheriff's office to film a law enforcement documentary. The show would be a spin off of 'Live PD' seen on A & E. Although, talks are currently held up between the county legislators and Erie County Sheriff's Office.
“This is an opportunity to show off how interactive and how specialized our law enforcement agency is," Erie County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer, Scott Zylka, says. “Any time Buffalo/Erie County is put on national TV, and involved with a movie, that’s great for our community.”
April Baskin, Chair of Public Safety Committee for Erie County Legislator, is completely against the idea.
“I personally think that there are other ways that we can promote the transparency and hard work of our deputies outside of exposing some of our citizens in their most vulnerable moments," Baskin said. “In my experience of watching reality television I think the shows that show positive narratives are not outweighed by the shows with negative narratives.”
At the moment the two parties have a misunderstanding regarding if Erie County will have any say in the editing that goes into the show, what's on TV, if it comes ot fruition.
Their request is still being deliberated but if the production company is granted access, there would be a one year agreement in place (2018-2019) with a extension option for 2020. Big Fish is best known for a variety of shows including Live PD, Hustle & Soul as well as Just Tattoo of Us among others.
