There was a mix of speed and style at the corner of Louisiana and O'Connell Streets as nearly 5,000 runners got set for the 40th annual Shamrock Run.

Around 10,000 were in attendance for the day's festivities, Old First Ward Community Association Executive Director Tori Ferraina said. In the hour before the race there were over 4,800 runners signed up, with many last-minute participants in line to jot down their names.

St. Patrick's Day 2018 falls on Saturday, March 17, but the race got the festivities started with everyone in the mood to celebrate.
