Back-to-school season means buying books, binders, and backpacks. All that can be expensive for families, though. So the University District Common Council along with multiple sponsors came together to donate 400 backpacks to students-in-need at the Edward Saunders Community Center.

It was a way of giving students a head start before the school year begins.

"Having those right tools to start off the school year with a great attitude, and that's what we want at this event. Not only getting things for free but making sure we prepare our students for life in their future careers," Taisha St.Jean, Legislative Assistant Buffalo Common Council, said.
