Flares shot in the air from a boat on Lake Erie near Hamburg brought the Coast Guard in to rescue the three people on board.

Around 5 p.m. on Saturday, the Coast Guard was notified that three red flares had been seen near the shore of Hamburg Beach. The Coast Guard sent out a rescue boat and found a disabled 20-foot boat at the scene.

The three people on board were uninjured and confirmed they had fired the flares. The three people on board, all Canadian citizens, were returned to Crystal Beach, Ontario.

The Coast Guard says flares are an important piece of equipment to have on your boat, just like a radio and locator beacons, because they can help emergency crews locate you.
