150 Summer jobs open up in Niagara County

The 2018 Summer Youth Employment Program is now accepting Applications!

Niagara County youth looking for jobs are being urged to consider applying for work through Niagara County Employment & Training, E&T Director Donald Jablonski said this morning, revealing that the county anticipates filling approximately 150 openings.

 
The openings, available to youths and young adults ages 14 to 20, are funded through a New York State Temporary Assistance for Needy Families grant. Applications are due by May 10.
 
"This is a great way for young people to spend their summer, earning money and developing marketable skills," Jablonski said. "These jobs are often the first work experience these kids have, so we try to make the experience rewarding for them in the long term."
 
Niagara County Legislator Rich Andres, R-North Tonawanda, who chairs the Legislature's Community Services Committee, noted that efforts are made to put youth into jobs that would work well for them.
 
"Our youth typically work 20 to 25 hours a week, and we try to find jobs close to their homes," Andres said. "We also try to set up an environment where these young workers can leave with a letter of recommendation to give them an edge with the next steps in their lives, whether it's applying for other jobs or for college and trade schools."
