The Riviera Theatre is getting a makeover thanks to state capital funding with help from Assemblyman Robin Schimminger.
"It's important that we preserve this cultural gem in our community," said Assemblyman Schimminger. "There are not many theatres such as this remaining in Western New York, and we need to do everything we can to ensure that future generations can enjoy the experience of seeing a show or movie at the Riviera Theatre."
The $125,000 funding will help restore the front doors of the theater and other masonry repointing projects throughout the building.
The theatre, located at 67 Webster Street in North Tonawanda, has been around since 1926, hosting 175 events and 100,000 visitors throughout the year.
"Due to the harsh winter months, increasing number of events and visitors, age of the historic Riviera Theatre and other environmental elements, critically needed improvements are vital to the long term preservation of the historic Riviera Theatre," said co-director of the theatre Gary Rouleau.
