Fred Daniel, owner of Freddy J's on Buffalo's west side, is serving up classic meals like you've never had before.
There's one special plate that Buffalonians just can't resist -- Red Velvet Waffles and Southern Fried Chicken.
His unique buttermilk waffles dawn a bright red color that'll really get your taste buds excited. Though, Daniel was tight-lipped about how the waffles get their color.
His food, heavily influenced by West African cooking style and Southern flavors, is more than enough to keep people dining in and pigging out.
"My nephew was always of the philosophy that you should bring something to a neighborhood that it doesn't have already," Daniel says. "When we came here, everybody was like 'why don't you do pizza or chicken wings'. He said we have enough of that already so the concept of the red velvet waffle was really his."
It's something you'll have to experience for yourself. And here's how: every first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Freddy J's offers every customer a free Red Velvet Waffle!
Daniel says "Customers in Buffalo are very supportive. They are very fair. They want a good product, they want fair prices, and they want the most important thing in business -- consistency."
Once you get a taste, you'll be back! The restaurant, located on 195 Grant Street, is open Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
