Hibbard's Custard: the 'sweetest' shop in town

'Sweet dreams are made of this, who am I to disagree?'

Hibbard's Custard has been churning out frozen custard for almost 80 years.

The shop, located in Lewiston, melts the competition.

Co-owner Kristen Trunzo said, "A lot of the people that do serve custard, twist it and do it in a different manner that does actually add air. Ours is hand-dipped and there's no added air."

It's not only the hand-dipping process that makes frozen custard different from ice cream, it's the machine too.

"Custard is made in a machine that directly draws it down through and freezes it as it comes out. It's not whipped at all, it's churned," she said.

Just one soft serve machine costs as much as a down payment for a house. But for Hibbard's, it was well worth the investment.

Their best-sellers are vanilla, chocolate, and black raspberry. You can get them and many more flavors like pistachio, cherry cheesecake, brownie sundae, and butter pecan in pints daily.

Satisfy your sweet tooth any day of the week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
