Lance Bass Is Making A Movie About NSYNC

Posted at 4:15 PM, Feb 18, 2020

In the early 2000s, there were just two kinds of people in the world: People who preferred the Backstreet Boys, and people who preferred NSYNC.

For those boy-band aficionados who preferred Lance over Brian and Justin over Nick, do we have some news for you: A new movie about NSYNC is coming our way.

According to Variety, Lance Bass himself is behind the new film. Alongside producer Cindy Cowan, Bass’ production company has pitched the project as a buddy comedy about NSYNC superfans who are traveling across the country to catch the boy band in their final tour. Sony’s TriStar Pictures just picked up the project.

The original motion-picture idea was created by Bass, but it’s based on the true story of two real-life fans who quit school to follow NSYNC around the country in a Winnebago they won on “The Price is Right.” Although the project was only just greenlit, the idea has been percolating in Bass’s mind for decades, he told Entertainment Weekly.

“It’s actually been about a 20-year journey. When I first found out about this true story, we were towards the end of our [Popodyssey] tour, and these girls had been following us for two and a half months already,” Bass said. “I was watching ‘TRL’ from inside the venue in San Diego and Carson Daly is on the Winnebago with these girls out front, talking about their story, and I’m like,’Oh my gosh, this is the coolest thing ever.'”

Bass says that his production team has not yet begun casting for the film, but he name-dropped hilarious women like Amy Schumer as potential fits for the roles of the BFFs. He also said it’s important to him to elevate women’s talents and women’s voices with this film.

“I think this is a story about women and I want it to be told by women, so hopefully we can find a great female writer, great female director,” Bass told ET.

And, of course, he notes that the soundtrack for the film is going to be completely epic!
