BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Hold onto your hats Western New York! We'll be ringing in the new year on a windy note.

Here's how all of this plays out.

Monday Morning: 33F

We'll start out quiet and cool. We may even see some sunshine early on before clouds begin to thicken up the sky.

Monday Afternoon: 43F

Get out the umbrellas! A soaking rain will be on our doorstep by the lunch hour. Winds will still remain calm during the afternoon.

Monday Evening: 50F

The evening will be the warmest part of the day. However, this is when winds begin to pick up out of the south. Expect for there to be heavy downpours in and around the downtown Buffalo area leading up to the ball drop. Temperatures will top out around a warm 50F by midnight, with winds gusting between 45-50 mph.

Tuesday Morning: 45F

The gustiest winds won't arrive until early Tuesday morning. That's when we'll hear winds howling through Western New York over 60 mph at times. Winds will gradually begin to decrease after 4 a.m. By breakfast, expect temperatures to be around 40F. Leftover rain showers will switch to snow showers later on in the day.
