Wellness Wednesday – How to practice mindfulness and relieve anxiety in uncertain times.

Dr. Nicole Ferguson, author of Unstoppable Joy says with all that we have experienced over the past year it is quite easy to feel anxious. We tend to rely on our routine as a sense of comfort; we know what to expect and it puts our mind at ease. What happens when life is filled with uncertainty? What happens when each day is full of its own twists and turns? Life can become very overwhelming very quickly. That’s why today, Dr. Nicole Ferguson challenges you to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is simply staying in the moment; not worrying about the future or thinking about the past; simply enjoying the present moment. She says for instance if you are eating a meal focus on the meal itself. Think of the colors, the textures, the smells and the taste of each bite. You’re not worried about your grocery store run you have to do later on or the chores you have to do; you’re simply focusing on the present moment enjoying the meal. Dr. Ferguson says mindfulness is so important for our anxiety and just for our overall well-being. Just thinking about enjoying the moment you are in because the only moment we are only certain of is the moment we are in.
