Linda is joined by Dr. Mark Laftavi, from Upstate Hospital in Syracuse and local Western New Yorker, Rene Tucciarone .
Rene’s wife Kani is a kidney transplant recipient looking for a match to receive a new kidney.
Rene, her husband donated a kidney to her in the early 90’s and now she needs another one.
Kani is currently on dialysis and waiting for a donor.
She has had several surgeries for being on dialysis with many never working. If the one she has now fails, they are not certain where to put a new sight-there is no place left.
Dr. Laftavi says you don’t have to be a match anymore to be a donor.
Also, the surgery now is a lot less invasive with less recovery time.
Interested donors can call LaVell C. Jones Upstate University at 315-464-5413.
The surgery would take place at Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.
There is no cost to the donor. All the costs are covered through the receiver’s insurance.
