Michael Murphy from Sheas’s Performing Arts Theater says it’s sad to have an empty theater and it’s been a very lonely stage. They’ve had a few small events in their lobby’s and they have some people on the stage doing some activities but other than that it has been an empty theater.

The Show will go on at Shea’s although it will be virtual. Michael Murphy says theater fans and Buffalo Bills fans know that being in the room where it happens is best, but the next best thing is being able to have it in your living room. They will be doing that with the Live from the West Side: Women of Broadway. Michael says they are bringing in Patti Lupone, Laura Benanti and Vanessa Williams. All these incredible performers have a Western New York connection. Laura Benanti performed at Shea’s black tie gala last year, Vanessa Williams married a Buffalo boy and Patti Lupone has a dad from Dunkirk and her mother is from Jamestown.

The first concert is tomorrow night, October 24th at 8pm and that is with Patti Lupone, followed by Laura Benanti on November 14th and Vanessa Williams on December 5th. You can get your e-tickets at Sheas.org.

Michael Murphy says since the shut-down on March 12th they have been able use that time to do additional restoration work on the theatre. He goes on to say it is a wonderful old building that needs lots of love and care and we have had the added opportunity of being able to do some work uninterrupted and it’s looking even better than before. Michael says they can’t wait to welcome people back.
