Fish Fry Friday

Posted
and last updated

Every Friday during lent Mel will try a fish fry from some place in Western New York. Today she is at Brunner’s Tavern in Amherst.

Brunner’s Tavern started in 1962 by Danny Brinkworth’s uncle and his father came into the business in 1968. The building itself has been there about 108 years. Regulars love the macaroni salad, steak sandwiches and chicken wings finished on the flame grill but on Fridays it is all about the fish fry.

Brunner’s had a mystery woman come in not too long ago and she did a story on her website about how good the fish is at Brunner’s Tavern. Danny Brinkworth says a lady came in last year and she had a website called The Fish Fry Gal. She comes in unannounced and writes about your fish fry. Last year she gave Brunner’s Tavern a 9 out of 10.

What makes their fish fry so great? Brinkworth says their chef Edwin makes everything homemade in the house every morning. So, the batter is homemade every Friday morning, the macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw is homemade, the French fries are seasoned with sea salt and pepper. The fish is fresh never frozen haddock.

Brunner’s Tavern is located at 3989 Main Street in Amherst.
