Make sure your kids are up to date on school immunizations, whether they will be in elementary school, middle school, high school or starting college.

As kids get older, they are still at risk for certain diseases. Before heading back to school, three vaccines are recommended for 11-12 year olds- HPV, Tdap, and meningococcal conjugate vaccine. HPV vaccine is important because it can prevent HPV infections that can cause cancer later in life.

As of September 1, 2016, all public and private school students entering 7th-12th grades in NYS must be fully vaccinated against meningococcal disease types A, C. W and Y in order to attend school. The meningococcal vaccine protects against serious and sometimes deadly diseases such as meningitis (an infection of the lining of the brain and spinal cord) and sepsis (blood infections). That's why the vaccine is sometimes called the meningitis vaccine.
