Since he was hired, head coach Sean McDermott and preached character and accountability within the locker room, so when he saw the news of the arrest of second-year player Adolphus Washington, there had to be a bit of frustration. When the head coach met with reporters earlier in the day, he admitted that he was “disappointed” upon hearing the news.

After practice, Washington addressed reporters for the first time since his arrest for improperly carrying a concealed weapon, and though he communicated with the Bills right away, said he feared the worst — that he could be out of a job.

“I’m not going to lie and say that didn’t cross my mind,” Washington started. “…but when the incident happened, I got in contact with my coaches and they backed me 100-percent.”

Washington entered a not guilty plea to the charge, though the case is still unresolved. The former third-round pick was mostly tight-lipped to the specifics of the event, but offered a little into what he’s doing to change.

“I’ve learned from my mistakes and I’m going to keep trying my best to keep doing the right thing,” he said. “Probably just the environment I go in and whatever. I’m young, I’ll make mistakes, I’ve just got to learn from them.”
