As Erie County Republicans gather to watch Donald Trump in the presidential race, they will also be keeping a close eye on some important local races including the race for Erie County District Attorney.

The contest features Democrat John Flynn going against Republican Joe Treanor.

Both men are touting their military experiences as proof that they would be best as Erie County's top prosecutor.

John Flynn is a commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve and is campaigning on a platform of stronger law enforcement especially when it comes to prosecuting cases.  He is also the current town attorney for Tonawanda.

Joe Treanor has 28-years experience as a USAF military lawyer and was part of the team that prosecuted Iraqi Dictator Saddam Hussein.  Treanor believes that politics should be taken out of the district attorney's office.  He is self-funding his campaign.
