BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - Have you heard of the doll My Friend Cayla? Germany has banned the doll and is telling any parent whose kids have the doll to discard of it immediately.
According to multiple reports, the doll can be easily hacked.
"This doll did not have a code for pairing once you pair the phone," said local cyber security expert Arun Vishwanath.
The doll is paired using bluetooth technology. Vishwanath says anything that's unprotected can be compromised, even a child's toy.
"You could be the guy down the street and hack into that system and listen to that child speaking to the doll and download all that information," said Vishwanath.
Some privacy groups do have complaints with the FTC, but Genesis Toys that makes the doll says it's taking these claims very seriously and insists the doll is not an espionage device.
