Canisius basketball star Stafford Trueheart has committed to playing college basketball at Hofstra University, he announced on Twitter Tuesday night.

The forward powered the Crusaders to a 26-3 overall record and their second straight New York State Catholic Class A Championship, a 44-41 win over Monsignor Farrell in March.

"It's a great feeling playing somewhere where I'm wanted," Stafford told 7 Eyewitness Sports' Nick Filipowski.  "I'm excited to be working with the great coaching staff they have that will help me become the best player I can be."

Stafford will suit up for Joe Mihalich, who coached at Niagara University from 1998-2013.

"I'm excited to be playing for Coach Mihalich.  I know that my high school coaches and many other mentors in my life speak highly of him," he added.

This season Stafford averaged 20.8 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game.  He tallied nearly three blocks per game as well.
